In Loving Memory of Don Lattis
1947-2018
Don was a graduate of Holy Name elementary school, DeSales High School, and the J.B Speed School of Engineering. It was a Sister of Charity at Holy Name School who recognized his gifted mind; she challenged him with extra mathematics and he thrived on it. His work in any scholastic endeavor was always of the highest level. His professional career included a position at McDonnell Douglas Corporation in St. Louis. One of his favorite lead-ins to a story was "When I was a test pilot at McDonnell Douglas...”. He wasn't a test pilot, but he sure told a good story. After his test pilot years, Don moved back to Louisville and worked in partnership with his brother Bill at A&L Mfg. The two brothers had a relationship based on mutual trust and respect, mixed with a great deal of a love of fun. His quick mind and playfulness were traits that endeared him to many people from all walks of life.
Don loved learning and he loved teaching. For many years he was a den leader of Cub Scout Pack 175 of the Lincoln Heritage Council. He followed his son Alex into Scout Troop 765. And spent 6 months as Scout Master. He mentored many scouts, including his son Alex, helping them achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. His most recent volunteer effort was with Scout Troop 205, a group sponsored by Dreams with Wings. Don loved hiking, camping, and being a leader for these men. He will be sorely missed by his friends in scouting.
All of us, his family and his friends, have lost a wonderful man. Our gatherings will be diminished by his absence.
